ちょっと小耳に!?

SMALL TALK

The location, facilities, curriculum, and atmosphere are all exellent. The Thonglor campus has closed, and now there’s a large campus in a residential area of On Nut developed by SANSIRI. It’s spacious and feels like a charming neighborhood, not what you’d expect in Bangkok.

The curriculum follows the British system, but the atmosphere feels relaxed and free. I visited on International Day, so parents from various countries were at the school, making it feel truly international. Many students were heading home with donuts and ice cream, which reminded me of how bringing sweets to school in Japan would get you in trouble. What a big difference! Every Friday is Ice Cream Day (as of 2022).

Thai students have to study Thai every day, so during that time, non-Thai students take computer classes, library classes, or work on projects. It seemed interesting!

The school is a nut-free school (a new term for me!), so nuts are not allowed. Lunches are allergy-friendly, making it a safe place for kids with allergies.

For elementary students, the only homework is reading. From middle school, they get a suitable amount of homework. The idea is for young kids to enjoy sports in after-school clubs and have family dinners in the evenings.

The floor for A-Level students (high school juniors and seniors) feels like a university. There’s even a kitchen! No uniforms are required. They give students time to manage their own schedules, study hours, and daily life skills. It’s great preparation for university life!

When you join, there’s an orientation for both parents and children. New students get a “buddy” to help them start off well.

In the kindergarten classes, there are many adults providing strong support, not just the main teacher. For swimming lessons, there are four adults for every seven children, giving proper guidance! The swim team is very strong, and they even have a free shuttle running from On Nut Station to the campus at 6 a.m. for students who want to practice in the morning.

They really focus on after-school sports clubs. They added more tennis courts because they need four courts to hold matches. There are two impressive swimming pools, one 50 meters and one 25 meters. The indoor and outdoor fields are spacious, and the gymnasium is amazing!

British CURRICULUM

CURRICULUM

The school follows the British education system, with most teachers from the UK. Students in middle school and above work towards IGCSEs and A Levels, emphasizing world languages, competitive sports, and environmentally friendly initiatives. It’s a medium-sized school with a friendly community, and a parent association supports volunteer activities and events.

In kindergarten, the focus is on language, physical, social, emotional development, literacy, math, and arts, along with specialized lessons in Thai, music, PE, and swimming. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of England, providing quality education from Nursery to Year 13. Graduating students often receive offers from top universities worldwide, including Cambridge and LSE.

In primary school, the curriculum covers core subjects, science, creative arts, modern languages, music, PE, computers, and PSHE. The school believes in a balanced education that fosters friendship through sports and values active, hands-on learning. Students can study two languages from Japanese, French, Mandarin, Spanish, and Thai, with an average class size of about 22 students for a personalized experience.

VISION

“PREPARING OUR COMMUNITY FOR A SUSTAINABLE GLOBAL FUTURE. ”

Education Environment and Teachers

Teachers

All staff must obtain a PGCE (Post graduate certificate in education) and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) from the UK Department for Education or the equivalent. A minimum of three years of teaching experience is required, along with a clean criminal record, ideal mindset mindset, attitude, behavior, professional standards, and a passion for educating and nurturing young children, as well as possessing a positive personality.

Students

The thematic approach simply facilitates a more natural learning experience, rather than the fragmented and reductive nature of traditional school subjects and enables children to appreciate, value and capitalise on this interconnectivity, whilst retaining a clear awareness and understanding of the unique nature of individual disciplines.

Bangkok Prep staffs 7 guidance counsellors specialising in International Universities, Thai Universities and careers and pathways. Bangkok Prep prepares students for life at top universities in the UK, North America, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and leading Thai universities.
